Corrater® LPR Internal Corrosion Monitoring Systems
The Corrater® family is the most advanced electrochemical field instrumentation available for measuring corrosion rate and pitting tendency. Through patented solution resistance compensation (SRC), we have greatly extended the operating range beyond traditional two and three-electrode Linear Polarization Resistance (LPR) methods. As pioneers of the corrosion monitoring industry, RCS has developed an unsurpassed pedigree of performance and reliability that has made the Corrater range the worldwide industry standard.
The large equipment selection and wide operating range of Corrater Systems offer:
- A pro-active approach to managing asset life and optimizing chemical treatment costs
- Capture of corrosion rates in moments with just a single reading, more accurately than
competitive systems
- A field-proven pitting tendency from an electrochemical current noise sample, more
reliable than competitive noise methods
Corrater® Linear Polarization Resistance Corrosion Rate Monitoring
Corrater technology only applies to conductive liquids (water) and is usually used to monitor corrosion rates in cooling water systems of all kinds.
The following are common applications:
- Control of Inhibitor addition in water systems
- For control of injection to minimize corrosion increases
- Evaluate different inhibitors and optimize their effectiveness over time
- Evaluation and pre-screening of inhibitors in the laboratory before field trials
- Cooling towers - to optimize inhibition control, detect process leakage or oxygen activity, and micro-biologically-induced corrosion effects on the alloys of construction
- Potable water systems - to test effectiveness of inhibitors and corrosiveness of biocides
- Oil field waterfloods - to protect the injection equipment, particularly from oxygen ingress
- Oil field drilling mud - to control inhibitor additions
- Geothermal systems - to monitor the condition of produced brine and changes occurring before reinjection
- Desalination systems - to monitor water quality
- Process waters, scrubbers - to detect particularly corrosive contaminants
- Evaluation of various alloys to solve material selection options, particularly in pilot or full scale plant environments

Benefits

- Corrater Systems employ Linear Polarization Resistance (LPR) to measure corrosion rate and a noise sample for pitting tendency in conductive liquids (water)
- The RCS patented SRC (Solution Resistance Compensation) technology provides the highest measurement accuracy with 2-electrode probes over a range of conductivities from salt water to condensates
- Both portable and on-line models available for quick and accurate corrosion measurements
-
- A variety of probes with varying temperature and pressure ratings available based on your specific needs
- When used with data loggers or on-line Corrater Systems can provide the same value as weight loss coupons but deliver the following additional benefits:
- The time frame to calculate corrosion rate is user determined allowing flexibility to quantify upset conditions, etc.
- Inhibitor changes can be quickly evaluated
- Changing process conditions can be quickly identified
- Corrosion rate data can be quickly presented without lengthy coupon analysis
